Southern France,
Episode 06
Their first destination on their Mont Blanc expedition is the Aiguille du Midi Observatory. The Aiguille du Midi Observatory is the world's highest observatory at 3,842m , offering the closest view of Mont Blanc, the highest peak of the Alps.
Mont Blanc Expedition
The four members of the Mont Blanc expedition team, who were walking along the Chamonix Mont Blanc street to take the cable car to the Aiguille di Midi observatory, could not help but be overwhelmed by the fantastic village scenery surrounded by snowy mountains on all sides.
The Mont Blanc expedition team, which quickly arrived at the cable car platform, was once again surprised by the exorbitant cable car fee of 75 euros (about 100,000 won) per person.
Since the Aiguille du Midi Observatory is twice as high as Hallasan Mountain, the cable car also has to be changed twice, so the fare is bound to be expensive . They came all the way here to see Montblanc, but they can't back out just because it's expensive. The four-member expedition willingly invested a huge sum of 300 euros (about 420,000 won) to purchase boarding passes.
A thrilling cable car
Outside the cable car, which climbs steeply vertically at a speed of up to 10 meters per second, you can see the world's steepest Bossons Glacier(Glacier Des Bossons) on the longest slope in Europe.
The first thrilling cable car, which made you feel the rattling and tilted slope, arrived at the intermediate stop. The scenery at the 2,317m high stopover was noticeably different from what they had seen in the city.
Another mountain, so large that it could not be compared to the mountains that had been climbed by cable car so far, spread out before the expedition team's eyes, and at the top of it, the Aiguille du Midi Observatory looked so small.
Even though it was covered in white snow and glaciers, the temperature at the 2,317m high stopover was unexpectedly warm. It was because of the sunlight reflecting off the white snow. This was the reason why people climbing the observatory wore short sleeves.
Aiguille du Midi Observatory
As the second cable car that the Mont Blanc expedition transferred to passed 3,000 meters above sea level, the Aiguille du Midi observatory, the highest in the world, began to reveal itself atop the sharp mountain.
The expedition finally arrived at the Aiguille du Midi observatory about 7 minutes after departing from the stopover.
Mont Blanc's weather is famous for its changeability, including strong winds and clouds , so you may not be able to enjoy the full view even from the observatory.
It was a moment of great anticipation as to whether heaven would grant the expedition team this opportunity, which may only occur once in their lives.
The spectacular view of Mont Blanc
On the day the expedition arrived at the Aiguille du Midi observatory, the weather at Mont Blanc was fortunately as clear as a lie, without a single cloud or wind.
Because of this, our expedition team was able to capture not only the fantastic feast of snowy mountains unfolding before our eyes, but also the panoramic view of Chamonix village.
The expedition team climbed to the 3842 Terrace, the highest point in the observatory, with a 360-degree view of the entire Mont Blanc mountain range, and was only then able to see Mont Blanc, which they had dreamed of.
Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps and Western Europe, is a combination of the French words MONT, meaning 'mountain', and Blanc, meaning 'white', meaning white mountain. It seems like a very fitting name because the top of the mountain is always covered with permanent snow.
And there is a very special space at 3842 Terrace. It is a dizzying photo zone made of glass on all sides, located on a cliff at one end of the observatory.
If you have the courage to can stand on the glass window at the edge of the cliff , this is an unrivaled space where you can capture the entire landscape of the Alps like a panorama from top to bottom, left to right, and take the shot of your life .
Activities in the snow field
At the Mont Blanc mountain range, 3,000 meters above sea level, various enthusiasts from all over the world were enjoying dizzying and thrilling activities.
Skiers thrillingly run through the Alps snow fields as a ski resort, rock climbers climb up and down rock walls that seem to pour down, and even paragliders soar in the wind against the backdrop of ice caps.Mont Blanc was truly an activity paradise where you could fully feel Mother Nature with your whole body.
Backpacking challenge
After seeing the fantastic snowscape of Mont Blanc, our expedition team returned to Chamonix Mont Blanc village for the first backpacking challenge in 'Europe Outside Your Tent' and purchased all the equipment needed for backpacking.
And the Mont Blanc Expedition , with a big job ahead, moved to the base camp at the foot of Mont Blanc, the site of the decisive battle, pitched a tent with the help of the magical energy of Feng Shui, and strengthened their resolve by having dinner in the shortest time ever with only curry.
