Episode 13 of "Sing Again 3," this is the long-awaited final. Finally, today, only one winner is decided. It is the very moment when the unknown singers, who bullied the judges with their all-time skills, are born as Korea's most famous singers. Final, tally method

The final ranking calculation method is as follows.

 

 

「10% from Public Pre-Voting + 30% from the first round of the finals (judge scores, audio, video, etc.) + 20% from the judges’ scores from the second round of the finals + 40% from real-time text and online voting for the second round of the finals.」

 

 

Real-time text messaging and online voting are so overwhelming that they overturn all previous rankings.

 

Final ranking of Public Pre-Voting

The rankings of the public online advance voting held until 11:59 p.m. on January 17th are as follows. 

 

 

In the final, real-time voting is reflected a lot in the score, so it seems to be condensed into a battle between Hong Isak, So Soo-bin, EJel, and LeeJean, who have high voter participation.

 

 

Finals 2nd round

Participants chose their preferred order of competition in the second round of the final according to the ranking in which they received the most judges' scores in the first round of the final. The order in which they are introduced is the contest order and also the voting number. According to the results, Choo Seung-Yeop , LeeJean, EJel, Kang Seong-Hee, So Soo-Bin, Shin Hae-Sol, and Hong Isak were introduced. The song they will sing has also already been released on the official website.

 

 

Choo Seung-yeop

Choo Seung-yeop, who runs a practical music academy for his livelihood and music activities, is the academy director and the main vocalist of the 23-year-old band 'Aktung'. They debuted in 2002 with high expectations, but the reality was not easy. They held their last tour concert in 2017 and released their last album in 2022, and were said to be disconnecting themselves from the world one by one.

 

 

He was asked to play a role of supporting players, not players. However, he said he still wanted to be an active player. Sing Again 3, became a turning point for him. The last song he will sing is Kim Hyun-sik's 'Always by My Side' for those who will listen to his song.

It was an all-time great song that felt like hitting a grand slam. The judges responded with a high score of 781 points to his singing, which he put his all into.

 

LeeJean

LeeJean is a singer who absorbs any song in her own style and creates her own story. She is said to have started her own music career by talking to the camera through her V logs. She have been talking to the camera for 4 years, but most of the time she was alone. Perhaps that's why the loneliness stands out in her songs.

 

 

The song she will sing in the finals is Yoon Sang’s ‘To You’. This song is a unique combination of a bright melody and sad lyrics. It is said that there is a strange charm that can only emerge when the two things are perfectly combined. LeeJean said she wants to show song's charm to everyone who listens.

However, judges saying that the refrain did not seem to have been organized into her own sound, and that although LeeJean's unaffected voice was attractive, that part was not properly revealed . And the score was 745 points. 

 

EJel

She wanted to sing, so she went to numerous auditions, but in the end, all she got back was that she had a unique voice and that she was rejected. It is said that only Sing Again recognized her voice and musicality. She says that this moment will be one page she can turn over in her life.

 

 

Even though it is the final stage, she said she wants to fully enjoy this stage rather than competing, and wants to show how happy she was on Sing Again. Ezel's song that will decorate a page of her life is DAY6's 'So That It Can Be One Page'.

Even though it was a contest, it was a stage that made the final festival event even more exciting and spectacular, with the audience singing along. And the six judges all pressed 97 as if they had made a promise, and the final score was 773 points. 

 

Kang Seonghee

After living as a musician for more than 20 years, she is now the main vocalist of the nation's top group Sound, but her name is still unknown until now. She said she wants to fly higher with the wind of Sing Again.

 

 

The final song that will complete her wish is Lee Seung-yeol's 'Fly', the OST of Misaeng and a song of encouragement to those who dream of flight. Kang Seong -hee, who couldn't say the lyrics at the beginning of her song because she was so overwhelmed with emotions, gathered all her heart and focused on the song again. Her song, which she poured everything into, brought tears of emotion from the eyes of not only the judges but also the audience.

Early mistakes could not stand in the way of Kang Seong-hee's overwhelming singing and emotion. Judges showed their support by giving her 765 points.

 

So Soo-bin

The next performance will be the best eardrum boyfriend So Soo-bin, who can perfectly pull off any song in his own style and is catchy to the listeners. He once signed a contract with a now-defunct agency in high school. The agency released songs that So Soo-bin worked hard on under the names of other artists. In addition, the agency did not guarantee him a proper performance for six to seven years, only Featuring on other artists' albums at best.

 

 

He worked part-time from an underwear store to a wedding singer to continue his music career, but he couldn't even release an album. He said, when the music he made hard for couldn't see the light due to money, he felt defeated and his self-esteem dropped.

 

So Soo-bin is an easy singer, but her efforts so far have never been easy. He wanted to make music that was easily accessible to listeners, so the song he chose after much deliberation was Park Seong-shin's 'Just One More Time'.

I didn't even drink, but why are my eyes tearing up? Is it already menopause? Haha.. I think this song was the best. The voice, rhythm, guitar, and ad-libs were all perfect. Of course, the judges also heard like that. 787 points! So Soo Bin got an overwhelming score.

 

Shin Haesol

This is the modern version of MaengBuSamCheonJiKyo (孟夫三遷之敎)!! It is said that for Shin Hae-sol, who had exceptional musical talent since childhood, his parents boldly decided to quit their jobs and move to the metropolitan area. It is said that they opened a camping site on the outskirts of Gyeonggi-do to make a living.

 

 

Thanks to the full support of his parents, Shin Hae-sol is said to have dreamed of becoming a singer who would bring happiness and comfort by singing on stage at a mountain camping site from the age of 12. She says that while challenging herself to become a Sing Again this time, she actually received the gift of happiness and comfort.

 

 

To 'Sing Again', which helped a child who was singing in a small mountain village come out to the wide world and face a warm spring and summer by enduring cold fall and winter, her last song was Kim Hyun-sik's 'Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter'.

It was like an exciting concert scene. Shin Hae-sol, who captured the attention of the audience and judges from the beginning, even received rave reviews, saying, ‘God gave soul only to Hae- sol’. The judges' score was 769 points. 

 

Hong Isak

It is said that Hong Isak's parents arrived in Korea after a rough 17-hour flight from Uganda to watch their son perform in the finals. It is said that his parents have rarely seen Hong Isak on stage before.

 

 

Sing Again, who insisted on his music but challenged to know the expiration date in anxiety! However, through this process, the expiration date itself is no longer recognized as important in his life. Cho Yong-pil's 'Song of the Baram' was the final song that enriched his pain, failure, and his determination to accept reality and find answers.

Unlike the previous stage, it was a somewhat tense and uneasy song. It was a perfect arrangement and stage composition, but perhaps due to poor condition, there was an error in the sound that was uncharacteristic of Hong Isak. The judges were also very disappointed because they knew Hong Isak’s skills. In the end , he received 761 points and ranked 6th according to the judges' scores. 

 

Special stage

All competition stages ended like this, and the six colleagues who made it to the Top 13 in the fourth round set up a stage to congratulate them. And Lim Jae-beom also created a collaboration stage with these six people, not as a judge but as a singer. It's the stage of Lim Jae-beom, a singer I'm glad to see after such a long time.

Final result

The results of the Top 7 that survived until the end in the competition against a total of 77 teams of powerful talent are finally revealed. The rankings, which are a combination of public pre-voting, scores from the first round, and current judges' scores from the second round, have been released as follows. 

 

 

And now it's time for live text messages and online voting to be released. How did the final ranking change? I'm sure everyone already knows, but please pretend you don't know!

 

 

The total number of real-time votes through the 'Music Cow' mobile app and text message was 633,155. Of these, 535,470 were valid votes. 

 

7th place: Choo Seung-yeop

6th place: Kang Seong-hee

5th place: LeeJean

4th place: Shin Hae-sol

 

There are now three people left. Those three are confirmed as Top 3. The Top 3 will receive a luxury sofa as a prize, and the 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive 30 million won in activity support. And the long-awaited first place winner will receive a total prize of 300 million won and a luxury massage chair.

 

 

So Soo-bin, Hong Isak , and EJel, who made it to the Top 3, had maintained their top rankings even in the Public Pre-Voting. 

 

3rd place: EJel

 

In the end, it is a fight between So Soo-bin and Hong Isak, the eardrum boyfriends who were pointed out as strong candidates for the championship from the beginning of Sing Again. So, really, who is the long-awaited winner?!!

And, unfortunately, the 2nd place is So Soo-bin.

So Soo-bin was superior in both the final 1st and 2nd rounds in terms of singing and judges' scores, but he lost out in the real-time voting. It's unfortunate, but there's nothing we can do because  this is the power of viewer participation.

 

Closing remark

After a long journey of about 3 months, Sing Again 3 has come to an end. I deeply sympathized with the endless challenges of unknown singers who struggled to achieve their dreams, and sometimes I felt joy with them, and sometimes I cried out of sadness. 

 

 

What impressed me while watching Sing Again 3  was the judges’ criteria. Of course, each person's screening criteria were clearly different. But among them, there was one common value that was most important. 

 

 

The point is that the unique voices and singing styles of the participating singers, as well as their musical world, were absolutely respected. Also, when their individuality and musical world exploded on stage, the judges responded by cheering them and giving them high scores.

 

 

Some judges want to change a contestant's personality to suit their style or standardized singing style, and sometimes the judging standards themselves are ambiguous. Sing Again's judges were different. It was a rare screening criterion in recent auditions.

 

 

And the judges did not evaluate the contestants from a vertical position, but as musicians singing together. 

 

 

Also, Sing Again was only able to focus on the singers' singing skills. It seems that they were performances in which the participants' songs were the main characters, not the stage focused on attractions, where they did not have to waste their efforts on dancing in insufficient time even if they only focused on singing practice.

 

 

Let's cheer for the Sing Again 3 contestants who have become famous after a long journey and the unknown singers who are unable to spread their wings against the barriers of reality. This is the end of our review of Sing Again 3.
